Hickory Grove, August 20

Hickory Grove is known for large groves of different varieties of Hickory trees. This large shag bark hickory provided exciting textures of light as it's curled bark reflected surrounding colors of blue, wheat, sea grass green and dusty purples.
Dee Abate finished the painting below with me in the forground. This is how we must look to hikers passing by. Thanks Dee!
I discovered the horse trail and brought my spotted saddle horse "Thunder" back the next day to try them out. The trails were a nice blend of open prairie (nice for loping), woods and hills (nice for shade and beautiful slopes), along with panoramic views which included the river, which I will return on foot to paint in the Fall.
