Stickney Run, August 12th

On a very hot summer day I found a this great site off the highway which is part of Stickney Run Conservation site. Large oaks grace this old cemetery. The Mosgrove family is buried here. Old cemeteries with unusual headstones are exciting to put into paintings. Not only do they add mystery to a piece, but the geometric shapes of the headstones compliment the organic shapes of surrounding nature. One can not help but wonder if these old trees were part of the lives of John Mosgrove (died 1854, aged 58 yrs.), Jane (died 1869, aged 67 yrs.), and John C. (died 1844, aged 3 yrs, 1 ms, 5 days).
